It's HERE! Wow. I can hardly believe it. For the past three months or so, I have been planning, researching, and working toward launching this website, and now it's live!
So why did I do this? For the nine years that I have been intentionally doing photography as an art (that's right—it's been nine years), I've never had an ideal way to link people to my work. Flickr is great, but it's not a good solution for people who don't use it. I've struggled with how to streamline everything while maintaining the social connection that is so important to me. I went back and forth about what to do but then the obvious occurred to me: why not both? I was so caught up in the either/or that I failed to realize I could have both. So about three months ago, I decided that I would launch a website this summer and keep my Flickr account, with a few changes.
Here's what all of this means. I will keep one of my Flickr accounts open (the one I've used since 2011) and I will close the other one. I will use this account as I always have—but without the pressure for every post to be "business quality" (if you're confused about which account is which, check out the announcements I posted on Flickr). I've never wanted my Flickr account to be about anything other than expressing my art, but the pressure was still there to be good—really good. The reason why I had two Flickr accounts was so that I could share my "non-blog" photos—basically, the outtakes of the photos that didn't make it on my other Flickr. It wasn't ever a good solution but I tried to stick with it. Now that I have galleries on my website, I have no use for the second Flickr.
The other change is that I will no longer be linking my new Flickr uploads on my social accounts (Facebook, Tumblr, etc.). With the addition of the website, it doesn't make sense to have posts from both places. If you only see my new photography through the socials and you're wondering how you'll see it now, don't worry! I will be posting on the socials when I add new photos to a gallery or...
...when I post a new blog! I'm very excited that this platform allows me to have a blog on my website and I don't have to link to an external platform (shout-out to SquareSpace for that design). As you may or may not remember, I did have a blog that I used a few times for photography-related stuff. I've wanted to continue that but with the possibility of starting a website, I decided to put it on hold. Now that the website is live, I can start writing the posts I have ideas for as well as sharing photography blogs.
If I ever stop thanking you all, call me out. Thank you all so much for your support over the past nine years. Back then, the possibility of a website wasn't even a thought it my mind. I was just doing what I loved. I am so blessed that I still get to do that with the addition of the support and interest of others. I am still amazed every time someone purchases something from my shop. That's my art. The thing I do to make sense of life and simply because I enjoy it. The fact that other people enjoy it as well is incredible to me. Thank you. Without you, this website wouldn't be possible and it certainly wouldn't make sense to launch it. Thank you.
Check out the website and let me know what you think! There are a few never-before-uploaded pictures floating around in the galleries so if you're interested, take a look.
